What Adults Say About Bridge the Gap

  • "While they can been seen as extras, they are all things that can normalize a childhood." (DSHS Social worker)

  • "It's not like our children are asking for extravagances." (Community volunteer for BTG)

  • "First day of school brings a wide range of emotions, from excitement to fear - for the child who lacks the fresh pressed look of new school clothes the range stretches to humiliation." (DSHS Social worker)

  • "Dear Bridge the Gap - I want to thank you for supporting our 7 year old Joey in his quest to be a soccer star. With your help he was able to make new friends. Thanks for caring..." (Foster mom)

  • "This is a huge, huge gift from the community for kids who didn't do anything wrong." (Foster mom)

  • "It has helped her self esteem and given her something to look forward to each week." (Foster mom)

  • Other Children's Administration offices in WA are jealous that we have BTG. I hear about that all the time. We brag about it. They know our kids have this (BTG) opportunity. They respect BTG. BTG screens thoroughly and prioritizes and mainly due to a shortage of funds they have to turn down some requests.

  • Cindy Hardcastle, Children's Administration Area Administrator for Clark/Skamania Counties: "We have a 'medically fragile' toddler that suffers from a potentially life threatening condition. We had already planned a vacation before we took placement of him, so he was going to be in respite for a full week and childcare for a few days while we were gone. Our doctor recommended we purchase a medical alert bracelet for times when we are not right there with him. I looked into purchasing a medical alert bracelet so all of his care givers could be informed of his medical issues while we were on vacation. The social worker suggested that Bridge the Gap was there to provide assistance for foster children. Within 24 hours, I was able to purchase an engraved medical alert bracelet with the funds from Bridge the Gap. This helped the child to get the best informed care while I was on vacation. I want to thank Bridge the Gap for standing in the gap for our precious foster children and for providing such a simple item that could potentially save his little life!!"

  • "You have made three young girls happy and excited to be able to participated in 'normal activities'. They have been having a great time doing their 'cheers' and socializing with other children. Thank you so much!!" (Foster mom)
